After falling to 1-5 it’s clear that the 2018 New York Giants season is over. On this episode I analyze the Odell Beckham Jr. both leaving early in the second half and bashing his head against the sideline fan. Also, a breakdown on how Eli Manning is done and what the Giants need to do moving forward.

Supporting Odell’s recent comments on Eli & NY Giants offense
The latest podcast breaks down how I support Odell Beckham’s recent comments about the New York Giants offense. While many have been quick to berate Beckham saying that he should have kept opinions in house, I support him for being honest and making points that are obvious. Also, we discuss how the Giants shouldn’t be surprised about this coming from their star receiver.

ELIte? Manning not an Elite Quarterback?
Eli Manning an elite quarterback? I’m not buying it.
Throughout his career Manning has always flirted with the elite status bouncing from Super Bowl hero to an interception machine. Entering his eleventh season in the NFL it is safe to say that Eli Manning is not an elite quarterback.
For the Giants fans who are most certainly screaming at the top of their lungs that this is blasphemy there are many reasons that Eli is not an elite quarterback. However, he is still a very good quarterback and probably a top ten quarterback in this league. This is why he is not an elite quarterback.
Most critics would argue that the two Super Bowl rings that Manning has accumulated is proof that he is an elite quarterback. Well, not exactly. True it is one more ring then his brother Peyton, who is clearly the more talented of the two, but this is misleading.
In 2011 there is no question that Eli carried that Giants team to the Super Bowl and played a superb game against the Patriots. Even in 2007 he did have a good postseason. The problem? The Giants defense carried them throughout those playoffs and in the Super Bowl. Let’s not forget that the Giants’ defense allowed only 14 points to a Patriots offense which, before this years Broncos, had scored the most points in a season. If the Giants didn’t beat the Patriots when the defense held Brady and company to 14 points you don’t think Eli would have been run out-of-town?
Another reason why Eli is not elite is he is one of the streakiest quarterbacks I have ever seen. He’s either on or off, nowhere in between. Just look at his postseason career. In his two Super Bowl runs Manning threw 15 touchdowns to 2 interceptions. His other postseason starts have been disasters. Not only are the Giants one and down in those playoffs but Manning has only 2 touchdowns to 5 interceptions.
When we think of elite quarterbacks they are consistent. We all know what to expect out of elite signal callers like Peyton Manning, Rodgers, Brees, and Brady ever season. Eli is either great or terrible. Last season was the third time in his career where he led the NFL in interceptions. Put it this way, Geno Smith threw less interceptions as a rookie with less talent around him then Eli Manning with a better team and who has played in the NFL over ten years. I’m sorry, but elite players don’t lead the league in mistakes three times.
Manning still is a capable quarterback. He still is a great quarterback in the fourth quarter and two-minute drill. Also, when he is on he is one of the best in the game. Unfortunately for Manning, the Giants offense is rebuilding and he does;t have the pieces to be a contender. Unless Eli can finish his career strong and with some consistency, he will never be considered an elite NFL quarterback.
New York Giants Mock Draft 2014 (1.0)
- Round 1: CJ Mosley ILB Alabama
Big blue has never been able to fill the hole left at middle linebacker since Antonio Pierce left. While the Giants never draft linebackers high, for whatever reason, it’s time to break the cycle and upgrade one of the worst linebacking units in the league. Mosley is the best middle linebacker in this class and is a tackling machine. He’s a perfect 4-3 middle linebacker who would instantly improve the Giants run defense with his side line to side line speed and nose for then ball. Mosley could be an impact starter from day one, something the Giants desperately need.
- Round 2: Aaron Donald DT Pittsburgh
It’s no secret that the Giants defense lives and dies with their front four. With uncertainty about Justin Tuck, the Giants need to upgrade their defensive line. With the defensive tackle position being average, the Giants could bolster their interior pass rush with Donald, who averaged 1.6 sacks a game last year with Pittsburgh. While his run defense needs some polishing, Donald is an interior threat that fits well into the Giants philosophy of rushing their front four defensive linemen. While it may not be their most urgent need, or a position that is desperate for improvement, an upgrade in the pass rush would take a lot of pressure of the rest of the defense. Donald would also take some pressure of the the defensive ends and help the Giants get to the quarterback.
- Round 3: Ja’wuan James OT Tennessee
It’s no mystery that the Giants offensive line was a mess last season. If James is here in round three, the Giants may have a great steal. At 318 pounds, James could be a great left tackle on the offensive line. While he’s not a great run blocker, he can pass block with the best of this class. If you can pass block effectively against the pass rushers in the SEC, you could have a great NFL career in front of you. If the Giants want to turn it around, Eli Manning needs to be upright and have time in the pocket.
- Round 4: Bryan Stork C Florida State
Stork is a pick that fills a crucial need for the Giants. While he could compete to be the starting center, he is a versatile lineman who can line up at guard or tackle if needed. This means he provides the Giants with some much-needed depth especially at guard where the Giants are starting to get a little long in the tooth. While he could be a starter from day one, the worst case scenario is that he’s a jack of all trades linemen who can fill in when needed.
- Round 5: Larry Webster DE Bloomsburg
He may not be a household name, but Webster is a dark horse prospect in this draft. The Giants love physically gifted defensive ends, and at 6’6 and running a 4.67 40 yard dash, Webster fits the mold. With questions about Tuck’s return, and the Giants love of drafting defensive ends, Webster could give them a project to develop. While he may be a situational pass rusher in 2014, if he can develop properly, Webster could a great steal in this draft and could be another great defensive end for the Giants.
- Round 6: Dontae Johnson FS North Carolina St.
The Giants secondary is in need of an overhaul. But with a draft lacking in that department, they have to look for late value picks. Johnson has the ideal size, 6’2 195 pounds, to become a great free safety. Currently Ryan Mundy is at best an average free safety and has peaked in terms of talent. While Johnson may not be a day one starter, he could provide some great competition early on. He would be a great backup for the safeties and could be a dark horse to start as the season progresses. While he had solid college stats, he has the physical tools to be successful in the NFL.
- Round 7: Storm Johnson RB UCF
Like his fellow UCF teammate Blake Bortles, Johnson may not have one trait that stands out, but he is a great sum of parts. Johnson is a great well-rounded player who has no major flaws in his game. Sure he might not have the dominant speed or ideal size, but he is a hard nose runner who can also catch and block. With the mess at running back last season, Johnson could be a good rotational player that could become an eventually starter down the road. With a strong finish against Baylor this season, if he is available in round seven the Giants would be foolish to pass him up. Johnson is one of my biggest steals in the draft who I think will develop into a very nice player. Do you agree or disagree? What should the Giants do on draft day? Follow and comment below!
2013 NFL Preview: NY Giants, NY Jets, Philadelphia Eagles
New York Giants
Coach Tom Coughlin
Offense Defense
QB ELI MANNING DE JUSTIN TUCK
RB DAVID WILSON DT LINVAL JOESPH
FB HENRY HYNOSKI DT CULLEN JENKINS
WR VICTOR CRUZ DE JASON PIERRE-PAUL
WR HAKEEM NICKS OLB KEITH RIVERS
TE BRANDON MYERS MLB MARK HERZLICH
RT DAVID DIEHL OLB SPENCER PAYSINGER
RG CHRIS SNEE CB COREY WEBSTER
C DAVID BAAS CB PRINCE AMUKAMARA
LG KEVIN BOOTHE FS RYAN MUNDY
LT WILL BEATY SS ANTREL ROLLE
Strengths: Whenever you have a Manning under center, you’re going to have a very good year. With great outside weapons with Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks the Giants will put points on the board. Running back David Wilson has shown his explosiveness in the preseason and is poised for a big breakout year at running back. The Giants front four is their bread and butter on defense. When healthy Tuck and JPP provide a nightmare for offensive lines. With great depth at the defensive end position, with
Mathius Kiwanuka and rookie Damontre Moore, and Joesph and Jenkins filling up the middle, the Giants defense could be poised to create havoc ion 2013.
Weaknesses: On offense the Giants are going to need to find consistency at the running back position. The G-men also need to keep Manning upright. Last season the offensive line showed many holes that at the moment don’t look to have been filled since the end of last season. If the Giants can’t keep Manning upright, then the offense will sputter. On defense the Giants need to stay healthy and get pressure on the quarterback. With a weak safety, and an even weaker line-backing core, the Giants need a big season out of the front four. If they can’t stay healthy or get to the quarterback, then the Giants defense will once again be a revolving door for the opposing offense.
Overall Prediction: 9-7 1st place NFC East:
With a difficult schedule this season a 9-7 record would be where the Giants finish. Considering all the question marks on defense, the offensive line, and health, the Giants should be able to make the playoffs despite not winning ten games. With the best quarterback situation in the talented NFC East. The Cowboys haven’t proven to be serious contenders in years, the Eagles are rebuilding, and the Redskins need to see if RGIII can get through a full season at quarterback. Either way it looks like the Giants will be back in the playoffs in 2013 and will try to make another run to the Super Bowl, which will be in their own stadium this year.
New York Jets
Coach Rex Ryan
Offense Defense
QB GENO SMITH(R)/ MARK SANCHEZ DE MUHAMMAD WILKERSON
RB BILAL POWELL NT KENRICK ELLIS
FB TOMMY BOHANON (R) DE SHELDON RICHARDSON (R)
WR JEREMY KERLEY OLB QUINTON COPLES
WR STEPHEN HILL ILB DAVIS HARRIS
TE JEFF CUMBERLAND ILB DEMARIO DAVIS
RT AUSTIN HOWARD OLB CALVIN PACE
RG WILLIE COLON CB ANTONIO CROMARTIE
C NICK MANGOLD CB DEE MILLINER (R )
LG VLADIMIR DUCASSE FS ANTONIO ALLEN
LT D’BRICKASHAW FERGUSON SS DAWAN LANDRY
Strengths: Rex Ryan team, think we know the answer to this one. If the Jets want to be competitive at all this season the defense must be a top unit in the NFL. While the deep secondary may have some holes, especially with Darrelle Revis leaving, the Jets still have a strong secondary with pro bowler Antonio Cromartie and rookie Dee Milliner. With Muhammad Wilkerson establishing himself as one of the best defensive players in the NFL, the Jets also added first rounder Sheldon Richardson to the pass rush. While it remains to see if Quinton Coples will remain at outside linebacker, with more athleticism and a stronger emphasis on the blitz, the Jets defense will get to the
quarterback. On offense the Jets have added more depth to the running game as they will emphasis running the football more. Plus with pro bowlers Nick Mangold and D’Brickashaw Ferguson on the line, the Jets may once again be one of the best at running the ball in 2013.
Weaknesses: Hmm other than quarterback? While it remains uncertain who will be the signal caller for the Jets in 2013, one can only hope it’s not Mr. Buttfumble Mark Sanchez. While it does look like it will be Geno time sooner than later, the fact is the Jets quarterback situation is terrible. Add in the lack of a star running back, a weak receiving core that’s still unsure when Santonio Holmes will return, and arguably the leagues weakest crop of tight ends, yeah the Jets offense isn’r looking too good right now. On the defensive side the two questions are can the safeties be solid starters and can Quinton Coples effectively transition to the rush 3-4 outside linebacking position.
Overall: 8-8 2nd AFC East: If Geno can be a solid quarterback, which isn’t too hard given Mark Sanchez’s recent history, the Jets can be a 500 team. Personally I’m not buying into the Dolphins or Bills until the finally can prove themselves as contenders this season. Rex Ryan is coaching to save his life and knows that he has to give a great performance this year. This defense is vastly underrated and has the potential to be a great defense. If the offense can run the ball, and not turn the ball over, then the Jets could surprise a lot of people in 2013. One things for sure, there is never a dull moment with this team.
Philadelphia Eagles
Coach Chip Kelly
Offense Defense
QB MICHAEL VICK DE FLETCHER COX
RB LESHEAN McCOY NT ISSAC SOPOAGA
WR DESEAN JACKSON DE CLIFTON GEATHERS
WR RILEY COOPER OLB TRENT COLE
TE BRENT CELEK ILB DEMECO RYANS
TE ZACH ERTZ ( R) ILB MYCHAL KENDRICKS
RT LANE JOHNSON (R ) OLB CONNOR BARWIN
RG TODD HEREMANS CB CARY WILLIAMS
C JASON KELCE CB BRADLEY FLETCHER
LG EVAN MATHIS FS PATRICK CHUNG
LT JASON PETERS SS NATE ALLEN
Strengths: Given Chip Kelly’s prolific offense in Oregon, this could be a year where the Eagles light up the scoreboard. When healthy Vick still has big play capability and a big arm to stretch the field. Whoever the quarterback is, he’ll have a vast arsenal of weaponry at his disposal. Jackson, Avant, Celek, Ertz, McCoy are all playmakers that create nightmare matchups for opposing defenses. With an improvement along the
offensive line it could be a lot easier for Eagles quarterbacks this season. If the quarterbacks can remain upright, this offense will score some points.
Weaknesses: On offense there are only two. First who will be the quarterback by the end of the season, and second can this offensive line protects whoever that quarterback will be. Michael Vick hasn’t played a full season in years, and it’s likely that the Eagles will turn to Matt Barkley or Nick Foles by the end of the season. The biggest problem for this team is the defense. Last year it was one of the worst units in the NFL, but now many starters from last season have been replaced with general unknowns. While the Eagles have lost many defensive starters, the biggest problem is that they are switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense. The problem? The Eagles personal fits a 4-3 defense better. Trent Cole, the Eagles best defender is a great 4-3, but moving him to a standing up 3-4 linebacker could make him less effective.
Overall: 6-10 4th NFC east Sorry Eagles fan. In the difficult NFC East, questions at the quarterback position, and a terrible defense, it’s going to be a rebuilding year in Philadelphia. While the will score points, I think we will see games where they will score 30 points but loss because their defense is so bad. Chip Kelly may begin righting the ship in Philly and being his high-powered offense to the pros, but unfortunately you need to play defense to. 2013 will be a step in the right direction, especially with Kelly at the helm, but it just won’t be a step back into the playoffs.
